A.G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies
The A.G. van Hamel Foundation
for Celtic Studies was founded on March 18th, 1991. The objective
of the Foundation is 'to promote and advance the study of Celtic
languages and cultures, in particular in The Netherlands, as well
as to widen and maintain a social basis for Celtic studies, and
thence everything that may contribute to their progress.' The
Foundation advocates a scholarly approach to the study of Celtic
languages and cultures, fulfils a coordinating role for specialists
in the field and operates as an informative organisation for the
benefit of anyone taking an interest in Celtic studies.
Activities
For this purpose, the Foundation
annually organises the Celtic Colloquium, at
which lectures are given by Dutch and foreign speakers, and the
Van Hamel-lecture, with a paper given by a specialist
of international reputation. Moreover, occasional speakers are
invited to give lectures, trips are organised, courses are offered,
and assistance is given in putting on symposia and a variety of
public events. For more information, see the Activities
section.
