Mission

The A. G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies is a Dutch non-profit organisation founded on 18 March, 1991. Since that day, the objective has been to offer a platform for the scholarly study of Celtic languages and cultures, in particular in the Netherlands, with a view to stimulating the progress of and public interest for Celtic studies. To do this, the foundation seeks to fulfil a coordinative role for Dutch Celticists and to keep our supporters informed about everything going on in their field of interest. Our audience ranges from students and scholars to lay enthusiasts.

Activities

For general information, see Activities; for upcoming events, see Calendar; for past events, see the archive. Note that these pages are in Dutch.

The foundation organises public lectures, chief among them the annual Celtic Colloquium, with lectures given by Dutch and foreign speakers, and the annual Van Hamel Lecture(s), with a paper given by a specialist of international reputation. Whenever the opportunity arises, other papers are organised, too. On occasion, we also offer workshops and excursions. Every year, visitors of public events like Keltfest are welcome to visit us at our special stand.

Four times each year, the foundation issues a magazine which is called, since 1999, Kelten: Mededelingen van de Stichting A. G. van Hamel voor Keltische Studies (Dutch for "Celts: Bulletin of the A. G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies"). Every issue includes articles, reviews and reports, and it informs readers of our activities as well as many other events of Celtic interest, both in the Netherlands and around the world.
