CELT.png
, or in full, Corpus of Electronic Texts, is a major web resource for texts relating to Irish history and literature. Since 1997, it is offering digitised editions of texts written in Irish, Latin, Anglo-Norman and English as well as translations into English or other languages. Most of these texts are transcribed from publications which have previously appeared in print, although some works have been made available for the first time through CELT.[1]

CELT started life under the name CURIA, a collaborative project of the Department of History and the Computer Centre at UCC. Transcribed texts are marked up following the guidelines of the Text Encoding Initiative (TEI), which has set an important standard for the digitisation of texts in the humanities.

Since CELT, a number of similar projects have been initiated, notably the Thesaurus Linguae Hibernicae at UCD.
