- Guideline for naming references
References are usually entitled using a combination of the contributor's last name and the year of publication, often followed by a letter to distinguish between multiple publications in the same year, e.g. Bromwich 1991b. More complex situations include:
- Multiple contributors, e.g. Bourke, et al. 2002
- Multiple volumes published over a number of years, e.g. Comyn and Dinneen 1902-1914
- Further subdivisions for publications in a single year. It has been convenient in the case of a prolific scholar like Kuno Meyer to group an author's articles in the same publication by adding numerals to the letter which follows the year of publication; hence articles by Kuno Meyer in ZCP 1 (1897) run from Meyer 1897a1 to Meyer 1897a7.
- A contributor sharing the same surname with a contemporary scholar, e.g. Ó Corráin (Ailbhe) 2010.
