Help:Text editorFrom Van Hamel wiki
By default, if you have not enabled WikEd and are not using a semantic form to edit a page, your onscreen text editor will give you a minimum of options for marking up text. Editors may want to add further options by enabling wikEd, a text editor for MediaWiki installations which adds enhanced text processing functions to edit pages. For further details, see the wikEd homepage. WikEd can be switched on and off by clicking on the button at the top right of the page. WikEd is not enabled by default. In order to make use of it, please read the following instructions. Installation of wikEdGadgetEditors should be able to activate WikEd in their user preferences: go to 'My preferences' (on the top right of the page), select the tab 'Gadgets', check 'WikEd' and hit 'Save'. The next time you edit a page, the new text editor should appear as a top menu, as shown in the image above. Refresh the page if necessary. ScriptIf for some unknown reason the method described above is unsuccessful, editors can also install a user script at User:YourUsername/gumaxvn.js (replace YourUsername with your account name). Instructions are given at the wikEd homepage. A revised version of the instructions are given below:
Below the text field you will find a menu for the insertion of special characters, probably much as you would when opening the symbols menu in a text editor like Microsoft Word or OpenOffice Writer. Just click on any character you need and it will be inserted automatically into the text field. A dropdown box lets you choose from a list of character classes, such as Standard, IPA, Irish, Welsh and Latin. Note that this function works only if JavaScript is enabled in your internet browser. For further documentation on this function, which is made possible by the CharInsert extension, see http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:CharInsert.
