Welcome! The Van Hamel wiki is a website powered by Mediawiki software and maintained by the A. G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies. It consists of three main components:
  1. The main website of the A. G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies (partly in English)
  2. *selgā: an index of primary source materials in Celtic studies (in English)
  3. A project page for *datlā: a Celtic studies bibliography (in English)

1. Stichting A. G. van Hamel voor Keltische Studies

This part of the website is primarily intended for our Dutch-speaking audience. For an English introduction, see A. G. van Hamel Foundation for Celtic Studies.

Upcoming projects

2. *selgā: an index of primary source materials for Celtic studies

Main page: *selgā

The *selgā project aims to provide an index to as many texts and manuscripts as can be considered relevant to the field of Celtic studies.

3. *datlā: a bibliography for Celtic studies

Main page: *datlā

The *selgā project is organised in conjunction with an online bibliography for Celtic studies, which has received the project title *datlā. It is located (off-wiki) at http://www.vanhamel.nl/refbase-0.9.5. A special page at the present wiki will provide information on current progress, give instructions for editors and bring report on issues related to the bibliography.

This bibliography is named for Proto-Celtic *datlā "meeting, assembly", echoing the way that the manifold voices of scholarly discourse are brought together in one place.[1]

Structure

For more information, see the introduction at Wikipedia

Pages on a MediaWiki wiki are grouped into collections called "namespaces", which differentiate between the purpose of the pages at a high level. Pages in certain namespaces can also have special properties or behave differently when they interact with other pages. A namespace is a set of pages whose names begin with a particular prefix recognized by the MediaWiki software (followed by a colon), or in the case of the main namespace, have no such prefix. For example, the category namespace consists of all pages with names beginning "Category:...". There are three namespaces which are intended for regular visitors:

  • The main namespace (also called article space), with no prefix, is used for content pages proper, notably the entries for texts and manuscripts in the *selgā catalogue.
  • The category namespace, with the prefix "Category:", lists the pages (such as articles) which have been added to a particular category. A page is assigned to one or more categories by using [[Category:]] at the bottom of the page. The top-level category is Category:Categories.
  • The project namespace, with the prefix "Van Hamel wiki:", such as the present one, provides information about the purpose and structure of this site.

In addition, there are namespaces which, though public, are primarily designed to serve the needs of editors.
