  • The poem was described as Old Irish by Kuno Meyer, but more recently (2104), Caoimhín Ó Dónaill has argued that the poem was composed in the Middle Irish period, probably in the late tenth century. Ó Dónaill gives a linguistic analysis and also points to historical elements that preclude a much earlier date.
