Archbishop of Sevilla (Visigothic Spain), theologian, scholar and highly influential author, who is known especially for works such as his Etymologiae, Synonyma, De natura rerum, De ortu et obitu patrum, De officiis ecclesiasticis and a Chronica maiora.

Tenth-century teacher, scholar and poet. He had been a student of John Scottus Eriugena, spent time at the court of King Æthelstan, found a new patron in Rotbert, archbishop of Trier, and became tutor to Bruno, brother of Otto I and later archbishop of Cologne. Breton, Welsh and Irish origins have been variously ascribed to him, with the Breton hypothesis currently finding most favour in scholarship.

Mythical cattle-owner or briugu; associated in dinnshenchas narratives with Almu (Hill of Allen, Co. Kildare) and Adarca (eponymously, Adarca Bó Iuchna) in Co. Offaly; name probably connected to Benna Iuchna in Slán seiss, a Brigit co mbúaid; in the story cycle around Cú Roí, he came to be equated or merged with Echde [or Eochu] Echbél, legendary owner of three special cows.
